Correctional Center Release Stages

The Chester County Prison page identifies the Correctional Center as part of the same Wawaset Road complex and provides a separate telephone number for it. Research supports a work-release and pre-release function. Placement there can be a step between the secure prison and final discharge, not the end of legal custody.

A resident may take part in approved outside activity while remaining accountable to the institution. Final discharge may occur at sentence completion or under a court or county-parole order. Some departures instead lead to PA DOC, another county, federal authorities, or immigration custody. The record must identify the event. A move from the secure prison to community corrections is not the same event as release from the county's custody.

Confirm a Correctional Center Release

There is no public Chester County name roster or recent-release feed for this center. A broad web search cannot reliably distinguish work release, final discharge, and transfer. Confirm one person with stable identifiers and a custody-specific sequence.

1. Call the Correctional Center at 610-344-4222 and provide the full name plus a date of birth, OTN, or commitment number when available.
2. Check PA SAVIN through VINELink for a county-reported custody event. Match the record before relying on its status.
3. Read the UJS and Clerk court record for the sentence, parole authority, bail order, or later modification.
4. Contact Chester County Adult Probation and Parole when county supervision is expected.
5. Request the maintained center or prison discharge record if the actual date, release authority, or destination is needed.

A PA SAVIN event can document what the participating custodian reported. It is not a full court disposition and may not explain an onward transfer. Likewise, a court order authorizing release does not show when staff completed physical discharge. Use both sources when timing matters.

Correctional Center Discharge Records

Chester County accepts Right-to-Know requests through JustFOIA, in person, by mail, or by fax. A narrow request should name the person, include a date of birth and OTN or commitment number if known, and state a short confinement range. Ask for existing records rather than a newly created explanation.

Useful fields include admission or placement date, the move from secure prison to the center, actual discharge date and time, release authority, supervision destination, and any receiving agency. Ask for electronic records. The county's Right-to-Know page lists an initial five-business-day response period, subject to a permitted extension. It lists standard copies at $0.25 per side and certification at $1 per record. Exemptions, court orders, privacy rules, or redactions may limit what is produced.

Supervision After Center Discharge

County supervision and state parole are separate. Chester County Adult Probation, Parole and Pretrial Services handles county probation, county parole, and designated bail supervision. The Pennsylvania Parole Board and PA DOC field staff handle release from a state prison. A Correctional Center resident does not become a state parolee merely because the word “parole” appears in the case.

For a county sentence, review the court docket and contact the county office at 201 West Market Street, Suite 2100, West Chester, PA 19380, 610-344-6290. The county lists extended appointment hours from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month by arrangement with the officer. Reporting directions supplied at release control. A violation can lead to renewed custody, so an earlier discharge record is not proof of current freedom.

The county Reentry Unit works with people paroled from the county prison and other local institutions, offering links to treatment, transportation, and PA 211 resources. Chester County also operates WRAP, a women-specific supervision and reentry program with assessment, case planning, treatment, transportation, health, and basic-needs connections. These services can support a community transition, but participation or a referral does not replace the formal discharge and supervision record.

Correctional Center Contact Details

The Correctional Center has its own listed phone but shares the county prison campus. The research does not supply separate public counter hours. Call the proper number before traveling. Questions about current placement go to the center; court orders and certified dockets go to the Clerk; release documents maintained by the county can go through the Open Records Officer.

The Clerk of Courts is located at 201 West Market Street, Suite 1400, West Chester. Posted hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The records and copies line is 610-344-4283. The Clerk record can establish the legal sentence or release authority, while the center record documents the operational custody event.

Ask a focused question at each stop. The center can address whether a named person is presently assigned there and how its discharge process works. The Clerk can supply an existing sentencing, bail, or disposition paper. Adult Probation and Parole can verify county supervision through the information it is authorized to release. The Open Records Officer can route a request for existing county records but is not required to answer a newly created custody analysis. Keeping those roles separate reduces delay and avoids an incomplete answer from the wrong custodian.

Chester Center Release History

Chester County reports that its current prison opened in 1959 and expanded in 1983. A new Pre-Release and Work Release Center was constructed in 1993. That history explains why the Correctional Center merits a distinct facility record while still belonging to the same county prison campus.

The center must not be confused with SCI Chester. SCI Chester is a PA DOC state prison in the City of Chester, Delaware County. No state correctional institution is physically located in Chester County according to the official state directory. A Chester County case can still result in assignment to an SCI elsewhere, but that transfer must be followed in the statewide PA DOC locator rather than through this center's phone line.

County Archives also holds prison-discharge papers dating from 1843 through 1872. Those historic papers are not a current lookup, yet they underscore that release is documented by a record tied to a custodian and legal event. The same care applies now: identify the facility stage first, then obtain the record of final departure.

Where Center Residents Go Next

A final Chester County Correctional Center discharge may return a person to the community without supervision, place the person under county parole or probation, or satisfy one term while another authority assumes custody. Pretrial Services also monitors designated bail releases. The appropriate next check depends on the order and sentence, not on the facility name alone.

Use the Department Supervised Individual side of the PA DOC locator only when state parole is plausible. That tool covers current state supervision and does not include ordinary Chester County parole or probation. A fully discharged state case may no longer appear. For a federal sentence, use BOP. For recent immigration custody, use ICE. Each locator describes departure from its own system, not freedom from all custody.

When neither PA SAVIN nor a locator returns a result, check spelling and identifiers before drawing a conclusion. The person may be fully discharged, outside that system's scope, transferred, or affected by an update delay. Court records can identify the legal event, and a focused county request can seek the actual discharge date, authority, and destination. Those records are more durable than a current-population search.
